Whistleblowers are not scum, they are just inconvenient to those who profit from corruption.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

Being a formal Security Officer myself when I first heard of Darien Long and saw the video of him tasering that loud mouth uneducated ghetto brawd I was glad that he did it, because she deserve it and was and still is a supporter of Mr. Long. I do feel that he let the publicity go to his head and he over reacted in some of the other cases with some of his other videos that I have seen. You just can't taser someone or assault someone that you don't like or go out starting trouble where there is no trouble to be found. You must remain professional at all time and use good judgement. If the police was doing their jobs in the first place and cracking down on the crime in that area we would not have heard of Darien Long, with his publicity he has made the APD do it's job and now they are out to railroad him for making them look bad.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

@eric pfeifer That phrase that you keep spitting out at everyone, "fuck you", really doesn't have the insulting power that it had 15 or 20 years ago. Nowadays, it almost like saying, "Aw, shut up, dude." So, if you really want to piss off your fellow CL brothers & sisters, come up with something heavier, k?
Meanwhile, I can see that you're getting all lathered up over nothing. None of the shit these people say on this board is going to mean ANYTHING in 50 years, so why get all frazzled and defensive and get your claws out?!
Go find a good coloring book and stay inside the lines.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

Eric Pfeifer, have you ever heard the joke "Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics, even if you win you're still fucking retarded"?

You need a new fucking hobby, dude. You're going to nerdrage yourself into a massive heart attack if you keep this up. Channel that self-righteous indignation into something positive, instead of bitching at strangers on the internet.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

I have a great idea, since many CL readers seem to condone the behavior of the people who frequent south downtown, lets run a free shuttle to downtown Decatur, lets see how long you tolerate the behavior??

As for city hall, they can not solve that problem, the group will just migrate somewhere else. The police show up a couple of times, make the news, city is on top of it, and everything goes back to as it was.

Stereotype? Really? Its pretty much reality and until their peers demand it change, nothing anyone else can do but avoid being part of it.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

So what Rodney is saying is that BECAUSE the city has neglected revitalization, people should be allowed to conduct their criminal activities? This is a privately owned mall and they should be shut down for condoning the illegal activity. That in itself would allow the city to partner with respectable businesses and begin revitalization.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

Instead of all this talk about racism, crime, revitalization, Metro Mall, what the differences are between knockoff vs. counterfeit, can we just fast-forward to the part where the Atlanta business elite decides they want to own/operate this part of town and tells their toadies at City Hall to begin kicking these businesses out and tearing down the buildings? We all know that this is how its gonna go down - it always does.

CliffsNotes for Cassie and Saxguy: The above article is an examination of the economy of downtown Atlanta and the off-the-beaten-path businesses that call it home. The discussion of this subject centers around Metro Mall, where a large number of such businesses are tenants.

Morons.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

Come on now people, knock offs is really nothing to worry about. They'll always exist and will continue to do so until these IMHO insanely priced items become more economical. Is it right? Nah, not really, but to waste police resources on this is useless. On the other hand, drugs, wheeling and dealing should not be tolerated. I've gotta agree with Cassie, the article doesn't seem to focus on just one topic. I do agree that there is whitewashing going on, but the article does raise really good points as well. The biggest problem is, what IS the main point the article is trying to make. Anyone help me out with that?

Eric, sorry man but I feel the need to step in; if someone were to yell at me or have their kids yell at me "faggot" repeatedly, as a gay man I don't need more than ten minutes to judge their character. I do feel sorry for those kids though, the mom seems to be a horrible example of a parent if she's teaching her kids to use gay slurs as a sign of a "weak" person. Never are epithets necessary. Never.

Re: “Darien Long is gone but not forgotten at Metro Mall

You know, I don't come to Creative Loafing expecting Pulitzer-quality writing, but...what was this article about? What was the author's point?

Seriously - what was the point of this article?

Was it about this guy Long, or was it about the effect of media attention on Long affecting the police's behavior, or was it about the rental barber who didn't like Long even though some owners did, or was it about some committee playing games and pretending to revitalize Downtown without including small business owners in the process? Was it about the dangers of gentrification, or was it about how the petty criminals are really just nice guys making a living and we should all just accept them as part of life's rich pageant? Or was it about the difference between counterfits and knockoffs, and how police don't care about the difference? This was a totally incoherent piece. I kept expecting the author to make a point, but then the article just sort of stopped.

I am tempted to quote the tirade from Billy Madison on this one - "I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."
