This article, as well as every comment everyone has left here, as well as any comment made by everyone ever, completely hit the nail on the head
I kicked my 3-4 can a day Coke Classic habit 2 years ago. About a month ago I gave one a try and hated it. It was like drinking a can of syrup it was so sugary. It also had a strong taste of vanilla which I must have gotten used to. They taste a lot different when you haven't had one in a long time.
Like InAtl I replaced my Coke habit with water and a squeeze of lemon.
Hi, I'm D and I'm an addict. Been sober longer than I was addicted.đ I'm happy to say, I haven't had a coke or any sodas in 8 years. I was drinking between 70-80ozs a day. Putting on approximately 2-4lbs a week. It's not the only "crack" (sugar) or 1 thing that will pack on the pounds! After going through withdrawals, getting rid of coke/sodas got easier & easier over time. I started feeling good..inside and out! For anyone who wants to give up the "crack"water, water and more water with fresh lemon, lime, orange or just your favorite fresh fruitđ.

"A 12-ounce can of Coke has 140 calories, people. It alone is not putting anyone into fat camp."

Not all calories are the same. The calories found in Coke come from sucrose and/or fructose which are simple molecules that are converted very quickly into glucose (blood sugar). Complex carbohydrates take longer to absorb and are more likely to sate the appetite for a more extended period of time.
hanging out, look up and squint and you might see the point of this thread whizzing by far above you
A 12-ounce can of Coke has 140 calories, people. It alone is not putting anyone into fat camp. Chalk that up to too much food. (Unless you're a freak who drinks a six-pack a day of Coke, but even then, you're probably eating too much, too.)
Once I gave up Soda I lost all desire for it. And now the really obesity danger of High Fructose Corn Syrup makes me glad I did. But when I gave it up it was more a calculus for where I wanted to allocate my calories. Beer and food. Otherwise water with lunch and through out the day is what satisfies me now. a twist of lemon makes it full of flavor to my now recalibrated taste buds.
And yea the Kroger on Buford Highway at Clairmont sells 6 packs of the Mexican coke in their latin section. I call BS on the linked article for to quickly dismissing the effects of shifting atom ratios and how they are bound.
Get Mexican Cokes for that real sugar experience...available at better retail outlets on The Byoof (Buford Hwy.)
Dear Curt,
Were you aware that Ira Glass might have stumbled onto the formula for Coca Cola ? Or, maybe a close approximation.
And, youâre right. It has to be a REAL Coke. I hope the knuckleheads who were responsible for that New Coke fiasco got fired.
Lastly, Why would you wasnât to quit a perfectly good addiction ? Just enjoy it.
But, youâre right about the high-fructose corn syrup. Something needs to be done to get rid of that and go back to cane sugar, like we grew in East Texas.

Im giggling at the people who hate the stores on cheshire. Little do you know, there are more than low-life thugs visiting these places. Its also your neighbor with the three kids, mini van, and a dog named Spot. Lol

@Been here long enough to know....
Are the prudes longtime City residents or are they what you call "suburban bred trash"?
Does one have more rights than the other?
Is every vacant storefront in the City the location of a former night club or adult business?
And also remember, fellas, everything we say and do carries reactions and consequences. So choose wisely.
For a decade now the prudes in Atlanta have been successfully shutting down nightclubs, and adult businesses in the pursuit of more"legitimate" businesses only to have empty storefronts and crappy nightlife lest in its place. The back to the city movement seems to have brought nothing but suburban bred trash hoping to turn the city into a sterilized version of what they had as kids...but without the horrible traffic...Please go back to where you came from....
The issue is that no one wants to develop new shops and restaurants for the family scene next to a sex shop or strip club. Chesire Bridge and the area it connects to piedmont to the Varsity JR is stalled out, and just doesn't look modernized. Why not work at least to modernize the look around Chesire Bridge and add some Bars in? That way the existing places can stay and you target more of the adult clientele around it. There is a lot of potential space along the area, just look at all the vacant spaces around from the Car Wash and GrindHouse. I would say leave the existing places along Chesire Bridge as long as they can improve the look of the street and add more Bars / non Family restaurants. Another thing look at Peachtree in Buckhead, 10 years ago the city took out most of the bars for new redevelopment of retail and living. Look at where that is now, still mostly stalled and under construction. Would this be the case in Chesire Bridge, I mean just down the road at Sydney Marcus there is a stalled apartment construction project. Shouldn't those be finished first
nothing weird indeed.
remember fellas, it's only a date if one person pays - usually the older gentleman.
Rents are already high on Cheshire Bridge. The reason there are so many adult businesses is that they are grandfathered in to be allowed there. In most areas where people live a strip club or peep show would not be allowed to open. So where are the people screaming property rights for those owners?
This is basically the high rent district for adult businesses in Atlanta simply because its always been that way. The idea that a neighborhood isn't allowed to ever change anything about the zoning or makeup of its own neighborhood is the truly sad point of view. I get it. A lot of people like strip clubs but that doesn't mean they have the right to permanent status where a community doesn't want them.
There are other issues. One local strip club has had more than one murder on the premises and had its manager go to jail for attempting to burn down a rival club. Yet they don't lose their liquor license? Why do you think that is?
I realize this is an opinion piece but it did not seem very well researched.
- Scott Selig being the lone 'expert' is laughable as he spends most of his time seeking zoning exceptions to build developments that the communities don't want.
- making the assertion that developers would steer clear of Cheshire bridge if adult businesses were kicked out makes no sense at all. What was the last developement between lavista and piedmont? there hasn't been one. So how could they steer more clear than completely ignoring it?
-on the flip side is the main cooridor between north buckhead and midtown really going be vacant empty store fronts if the strip clubs move out? This is beyond a stretch.
-"What about lobbying the city for more streetscape and sidewalk upgrades?" this has been done. why do you think there are streetscape and sidewalk upgrades for the first 200 feet from piedmont. The neighborhoods worked their asses off and for some reason that's as far as the city went with it.
-"Why not look for other ways to reduce crime and improve the neighborhood?" my god maybe talk to the neighborhood leaders. This is what the civic associations do all day everyday. Contrary to what you might think no one in these neighborhoods spends their days writing letters to strip clubs.
The idea that the neighborhood is full of prudes who just picked this area and want to turn it into mayberry is a myth. And the idea that the neighborhoods are all rich people is totally false. What's not false or unsubstantiated is that heavy concentration of adult businesses increase the rates of certain crimes and adversely affect property values not only for residents but other businesses.
"Its sad that an article of this useless caliber is even approved by CL."
you know if you say the word gullible slowly enough it sounds like the word opinion. try it out
Re: “Clean up Cheshire Bridge?”
provide the option that will permit the building of a synogogue and they will come; a pleasantville neighborhood will thrive and prosper. move the party somewhere else; and let the property moguls practice some creative financing to aid the working people. It would not be a bribe, but a sacrifice of some of their profiteering. Create an account to provide severance packages to those who really need it.
