Upcoming: Short List

Screen on the Green, Buddy Guy and more

May 29 Thursday

Now in its ninth year, SCREEN ON THE GREEN has become a cinematic tradition for movie lovers around the city. This year's festival, benefiting the Piedmont Park Conservancy, kicks off with the classic suspense flick Jaws (right), just in time for the beach-going season. Pack a picnic basket, grab a comfortable blanket and make your way to Centennial Olympic Park to watch Sheriff Brody scramble around to protect his dear Amity Island from the menacing great white. Free. Sunset. Centennial Olympic Park, 285 International Blvd. www.peachtreetv.com/specials/screenonthegreen. (Alicia Wages)

May 30 Friday

The city's best-manicured concert venue, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, kicks off its six-show summer season with a performance by a bluesman whose career pre-dates the garden by at least two decades: BUDDY GUY. Admired by Jimi Hendrix for his showmanship and adored by blues-loving Brits Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Jimmy Page for his 1960s session work, the 71-year-old didn't become a big draw in the United States until 1991's Grammy-winning Damn Right, I've Got the Blues. The Mike Lowry Band opens. $31.50-$35. 8 p.m. 1345 Piedmont Ave. 404-876-5859. www.concertsinthegarden.org. (Andisheh Nouraee)

May 31 Saturday

Because two is better than one, there's a double dose of art at Beep Beep Gallery this Saturday. Just to make the packages sweeter, both Rene Arriagada's DEATH STENCIL and Blink's GUARDIANS OF OUR MEMORY exhibitions use the straightforward and intricate art of stenciling. Let both locally known artists overstimulate you and renew your love for stenciling. Through June 21. Free. Opening reception, 8 p.m.; Fri.-Sun., noon-6 p.m. Beep Beep Gallery, 696 Charles Allen Drive. 404-429-3320. www.beepbeepgallery.com. (Wendi Jonassen)
