Re: “Review: The ArchAndroid casts Janelle Monáe phantom of the popera

I take back some of my previous comments, I'm listening to ArchAndroid now and this album is sick! Hands down one of the best albums of the year.

If Janelle's stage show can visually tie together the themes within the album, this shit could make her a superstar

Re: “The trials and jubilations of Butch Walker

"what janelle does is not about "capitalizing" on anything. she simply wants to get an incredible message out to the people. real people. her look supports that. this is no FLAW at all."

All artists capitalize on something.

"So the biggest flaw with a musical artist is the fact that their fashion doesn't come before their music???"

No, I never said the fashion comes BEFORE the music, but the brand is coupled with the music and in turn impacts how the audience is engaged in the artistic experience.

Janelle Monae is very talented, I almost think she could be the female r&b version of David Bowie. She can reinvent herself every time. Her revamping her image has nothing to do with diluting the music. The music comes first, but artists have to realize you're selling a brand.

Re: “MGMT: Congratulations

If you gave it 2 out of 5 stars, its because DAVE FRIEDMANN ( aka the Flaming Lips producer, Mercury Rev alum) didn't write and produce it!

I think Janelle Monae has a lot of potential. She's very attractive, has a great voice, she's willing to experiment with new songs.

However, her biggest flaw is that her label or management, whoever, has not encouraged her to revamp her image. She has a look that can be reinvented and changed with each new musical project/experiment. She's not really capitalizing on that. How many more times are we going to look at the weird black chick with the Elvis Presley do who wears tacky suits? That shit only flies for so long.
