Radcliffe Bailey has been one of Atlanta's most respected and established artists for years now. His artwork is featured in prestigious museum collections ranging from New York's MOMA to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Memory as Medicine, Bailey's 2011 solo exhibition and career retrospective at the High Museum, confirmed that status by giving him the same expansive treatment and space as an international legend like Salvador Dalí. The exhibition, the largest ever mounted by a local artist at the High, shows Bailey's striking range, from a series of delicate, colorful paintings to a daunting installation assembled from thousands of piano keys. After seeing his career's work arranged in thematic groups of "Blood," "Blues" and "Water," it's easy to understand what Bailey meant when he spoke, humble as always, to the museum's opening night crowd, "I believe in making work so personal that it becomes universal." 1280 Peachtree St. 404-733-4444. high.org
