Comedy: Wanda Sykes

Thurs.-Fri., July 30-31

While casual comedy fans may refer to WANDA SYKES as the really funny black woman with short hair and a nasal voice, the more informed recognize her as a comedy giant with a sharp tongue and a candid approach. Not afraid to touch on topics like abortion, politics and the Catholic church, Sykes' highbrow yet occasionally vulgar brand of humor puts her among the likes of Chris Rock and Lewis Black as a socially cerebral comic who tells it like it is. Sykes will be at Uptown Comedy Corner for a two-night stint. $30-$40. Thurs.-Fri., 8 and 10 p.m. 800 Marietta St. 404-881-0200.
