Short List

Brian Rogers benefit, Campus MovieFest and more

March 26 Thursday

Brian "Spanky Twangler" Rogers – husband, father of two and a long-standing member of Atlanta surf-rock band the Penetrators – was recently diagnosed with stage IV esophageal cancer, which requires aggressive treatment. After learning about his diagnosis, more than a dozen local acts rallied behind the cause to raise money and support for Rogers and his family with a two-night benefit. Bands on the bill include Thee Crucials, the Woggles, the Forty-Fives and many more. Through March 27. $5-$10. Thurs.-Fri., 9 p.m. Star Bar, 437 Moreland Ave. 404-681-9018. www.starbaratlanta.com. (Chad Radford)

March 29 Sunday

The most primitive sport known to man comes to Georgia this weekend in the form of the ING MARATHON & HALF MARATHON. Growing in popularity each year, spectators can cheer on the men and women who brave the elements for a whopping 26 miles. Various cheering zones will supply plenty of inflatable noisemakers and signs, so whether you're an avid race fan or just love making noise, come out and be a part of a great tradition. Free. 7:04 a.m. See website for location details. www.inggeorgiamarathon.com. (Andy Nelson)
