Theater: The Bluest Eye

Thurs.-Sun., April 1-4

Thirty-five years ago Jasmine Guy danced on Spelman College's Baldwin Burroughs' stage, and now she's back. Only this time around, the acclaimed actress has stepped into the shoes of director as she helms the drama and dance production of Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's novel THE BLUEST EYE, the story of an 11-year-old girl named Pecola Breedlove who believes that blue eyes will bring her the love and acceptance that her dark skin cannot. This play teaches how to love despite the presence of racism and society's idea of what is beautiful. $5-$10. Thurs.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 3 p.m. 350 Spelman Lane. 404-270-5488. www.spelman.edu.
