I'm sorry to report that Hank's Ice Cream (753-A Cherokee Ave., 404-622-0007), currently my favorite in the city, has lost the lease on its Grant Park location across from Zoo Atlanta. There's still time for you to try the Houston-based shop's sometimes wacky flavors, since it will be open most of this month.
The good news is that Hank's is opening new locations in College Park and Midtown. The latter location, still in negotiation at this writing, is somewhere on 10th Street. The College Park store will be inside Wayfield Foods at 5658
Riverdale Road. Employees at the shop say the owner is looking for another Grant Park location, but hasn't found one yet.My favorites at Hank's are the ice creams that are loaded with nuts. Most recently, I've been into the butter almond. A particularly unique flavor is the rose petal, only available around Valentine's Day.

Good to know they've got a plan for opening others. 10th street location will be closer to me, so I'm happy about that and hope it goes through. College Park will be a good location for them too. I'll miss being able to grab some Hanks on the way from the Zoo or other Grant Park activities. Grant Park with definitely lose at least a but of its lustre when this place is gone.
