Tamarind is back! It's got a new name, Tamarind Seed, and a new location at Colony Square, but Charlie and Nan Niyomkul are serving the same menu that made their restaurant on 14th Street such a hit. I'll be sharing my first impression in next week's paper, but you don't have to wait for that to go. The remarkably complex food is still superior to any other Thai menu in Atlanta. And the restaurant was packed with a 15-minute wait on a Monday night -- very rare in any Atlanta restaurant.
Chef Nan (who gives her name to the couple's other restaurant, where she usually works) is in the kitchen of Tamarind Seed for the time being, Charlie is up front and their son Eddie is everywhere in the dining room. Here are a few pics, including the arty aftermath of fried bananas and green-tea ice cream, a shot of chef Nan in the kitchen, staff at the kitchen window and the restaurant as aglow as its food is fiery.

My fiance and I showed up on Sunday, July 10th for the opening as this has always been our favorite restaurant in Atlanta. Tamarind has not lost a step. Charlie greeted us with such joy and grace (as always) and Nan treated us to a top notch meal (as always) of incredible Thai cuisine. $60 for a dinner for two - cuisine that rivals any restaurant in the A in quality --- Tamarind has to be the best value in the city.
