Super-supper-size that boliche, por favor

I've been eating at Havana Sandwich Shop, (2905 Buford Highway, 404-636-4094) for 25 years. I might be wrong, but I think it's the oldest Cuban restaurant in Atlanta — and still among the best for home-style Cuban cooking. I stopped in over the weekend for a plate of boliche with black beans and rice. Warning: Be sure if you want the smaller lunch portion that you specify it. Otherwise, like me, you'll get the gigantic super-supper-size.

Although it's long been cool to say that Kool Korner on 14th Street has the best Cuban sandwich in town, I'm inclined to think Havana Sandwich Shop's is as good. There's nothing here I don't like and the prices are very congenial.

I agree about the goodness of Havana. It's nothing fancy, just reliably well-made Cuban comfort food. And the portions even for the lunch plates can be huge. Any plate that comes with rice and beans, especially if it's in a to-go box, contains enough food for two people because of the starchy piles of ricey, beany deliciousness. Two complaints: the interior is starting to get dingy to the point of ickiness - a little remodeling might be in order; the parking situation sucks monkey butt. Otherwise, it's a great lunch spot.

I must say, Cliff,, I've lived in Atlanta for almost 9 years, and to this day, the wonderfully sour and tangy taste of that Cuban mojo on a turkey sandwich is by far the best in town. Hands down the best Cuban sandwich in Atlanta.
