Omnivore - Atmosphere: maybe the best French cafe in town

Now that French cuisine is featured at some major restaurants such as French American Brasserie and Trois, I’ve been visiting a few smaller restaurants lately, including Atmosphere (1620 Piedmont Ave., 678-702-1620), located in an, um, atmospheric cottage near Ansley Mall.

We found the bistro, which has been open about five years, rather staid on a Sunday night, with mainly retiree-aged diners. It was also definitely understaffed, causing spotty service.

Did we care? No! The food was almost sexy, it was so sensual. I ordered beef back ribs stewed in red wine (picture above), served with tender ravioli stuffed with ground portobellos. There were also confit leeks and glazed baby carrots in the bowl. I’ll have more to say in a review next week. In case you decide to go before then, I have one thing to say: profiteroles.
