We checked out Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q (1238 DeKalb Ave., 404-577-4030) last week. It's located in the building formerly occupied by Gringos.
This restaurant is operated by two brothers from Texas. They acquired a huge following at Smith's Olde Bar, where their distinctive 'cue was served only on Wednesday nights. (I got continual recommendations to try it.) Even just serving one night a week, they made many critics' "best barbecue" lists.
The new venue is convivial and evoked pleasant memories of dining at Goode and Company during my years in Houston.
The big seller here is the brisket, a Texas specialty that is hard to find in our city. I'll report more on the food in next week's paper.

We ate here for the first time last Saturday night and had a good experience. I got the pulled pork sandwich with a side of mac n cheese and my wife got ribs with slaw and tater tots. I liked the flavor of the pulled pork and appreciated the pickles on the sandwich - I'm always disappointed when pork sandwiches don't have them. The meat was just a bit dry, but there was extra sauce on the table. The mac n cheese was made with shell pasta and was very good. Her ribs had a really great rub on them with a nice clove flavor, though they were also a little dry and I wondered if that had anything to do with the fact that we were in there pretty late and the stuff had been cooke much earlier. Anyway, the slaw was fairly bland but the tater tots were good (though hard to mess up). We talked about how there seem to be several places around town where you can get tater tots on the side and how we hadn't seen that so much in other cities. Is Atlanta a tater tot town?
