Honeymooning couple gets Paris recommendations

Recently, I issued a request that readers share their Paris favorites for a couple planning a honeymoon there. Following are a few recommendations from readers.

William Gilmore recommends two in the 8th arrondissement: Bistro Marius, "a seafood bistro mainly patronized by locals," and Chez Andre, "your typical bistro but we found the food exceptional and slightly different."

He also likes two near the Louvre: Le Salut du Loup, "bar, restaurant and terrace in the Museum of Decorative Arts, facing the Louvre pyramid," and Le Fumoir, "foams and fish, request no-smoking seating."

This is from Pat Skott: "Please tell your honeymooner to go to Le Train Bleu at the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris. The food is wonderful, but the train station and restaurant are spectacularly beautiful. It was one of the most romantic, European-looking rooms I've ever seen, and the train station looks like something out of a 1930s or '40s movie (except with modern trains pulling in and out). They won't be disappointed!"

Dennis McCoy writes: "As for Paris: a gent’s blog that I read has many great tips about dining and all things Paris. His name is Phil Demetrion, an American writer who’s living in Paris, and is a most cordial chap, even when emailed by strangers. He lists all sorts of non-tourist places to see and eat."

His current site is here. His archives are here.

My suggestion, as always, is to at least have one good Moroccan meal in Paris. I like Le Souk and Mansouria, both in the Bastille area. I also concur with Pat Skott's recommendation. Seven years ago, I got on a train in Frankfurt, Germany, headed for Genoa, Italy. I got on the wrong part of the train and woke up hours later to find myself in the Gare de Lyon in the middle of a raucous World Soccer Cup rally. I ended up killing time at Le Train Bleu with a bunch of people dressed as if they were about to stage a soccer match in Wonderland.
