Central Italian restaurant opens in Midtown

Allegro, a new restaurant focusing on central Italian cuisine, opens today in the Belvedere condominium complex in Midtown, serving a variety of traditional-style dishes from Tuscany, Umbria and Marche. Headed by executive chef Jose Rego, who has worked at both Fritti and Sotto Sotto, Allegro will offer a rotating menu featuring dishes such as tuna carpaccio, king crab cannelloni and pheasant in cream.

Rego, who is originally from Angola, Africa, received his degree in culinary arts from Johnson & Wales University and has also worked at Hotel Byblos in Saint-Tropez, France; Union League Cafe in New Haven, Conn.; and Via Matta in Boston.

Allegro is open for dinner Mon.-Thurs., 5-11 p.m.; Fri.-Sat., 5 p.m.-midnight; and Sun., 5-10 p.m. To make reservations, call 404-888-1890.
