Local strawberries = summer is here!

The East Atlanta farmer's market resumed last Thursday, having moved from the parking lot beside the Earl to the Ace Hardware parking lot on Glenwood Avenue. It was great to have the market open again, but the greatest gift was from Riverview Farms in the form of organic strawberries.

Strawberries are one of those foods that are almost magical in their power to evoke feeling and nostalgia. One bite and it hit me in the heart — summer is here! These strawberries are nothing like what you'll find in the supermarket — in the first place, they smell like strawberries. They are sweet-tart, delicate and amazing.

The next day I came across more local strawberries at the farm stand at Star Provisions — they barely made it home before they were gone.

Strawberry season doesn't last long, so don't miss it.

Any recommendations of good local U-pick farms/orchards? The only ones I know of are down in the southern suburbs, which is a hike from my home up in Vinings.

Had the strwberries from EAV market and they were the tops! I also tried some "locally grown" and "Georgia Organic" strawberries from Whole Paycheck. The organic were 10 times better, but still not as good as EAV market.
