After lunch at Dynamic Dish, I walked a few blocks to see how things were coming with Noni's Italian Deli and Bar, which Matt Ruppert is opening at 357 Edgewood Ave. Obviously, it's still under construction, another victim of the city's notoriously slow issuance of permits. Hopefully, it will be open next month.
The restaurant is named, by the way, after Matt's grandmother.
Oh, I also learned during my visit to Edgewood Avenue that Javaology is reopening. The building's owner is going to open it himself, rather than look for a new tenant. That's good news!

dude - noni - is italian for grandmother. go eat some more chicken and do your research.
Hi Speakeasy, Nonna is Italian for grandmother. Since 'Noni' is a personalized diminuative, Cliff's statement is perfectly cool. Speaking of -- we called my grandmother on my mother's side Grandmother and I never felt odd about it until I grew up heard everyone else's terms like 'grammy' and 'grin gran'. I'm excited to know that Javaology is re-opening! That was such a cool space. I've had hopes for seeing bold revitalization on that stretch on Edgewood for a while now and they've gone mostly unrealized, even with the excellent addition of Dynamic Dish. Maybe things will get back on track now.
Noni's Deli is fantastic!!! Great atmosphere...not too trendy, but not just your average bar. Large bar area with cool seating, big beer selection, good food. It's a diamond in the rough in the coolest up and coming part of Atlanta, the Old Fourth Ward. Safe parking behind the restaurtant (hidden driveway directly beside the restaurant), or you can park on the street in front.
Noni was terrific! The food was tasty, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was cozy and warm. We ate at the bar, and really dug the low chairs... you'll see. My only small complaint was that the chicken and eggplant parm could have come with a little pasta on the side to round it out. Then again, I'm just a big pig. More than anything, as an Old 4th Ward resident, I'm really proud of them for opening up in such a transitional area. To make a point, we walked there, through the rougher areas, and we really felt perfectly safe. More people need to support these kind of businesses and get out on the streets to show that Edgewood and the Old 4th Ward is safe and enjoyable to everyone. Thanks for taking the plunge, Noni, and good luck!!!
