News / Restaurants Sala closed?

It's not one of the restaurants I've been hearing are on the verge of closing, but I received this discouraging email from a reader today:
Have you heard anything about Sala in VA HI? It has a sign that it is closed but nothing about when it is going to reopen. Sucks because I have two $50 gift certificates that have to be used by August 3. They were selling $50 gift certificates for $12 and I thought it was a deal. Apparently not!
When I called the restaurant, I got a recording that said the phone was "temporarily disconnected."
I'm afraid we are going to be seeing more and more of this.

Fifth Group Restaurants has taken the property back and is in the process of reconcepting it to open under a new name in the coming weeks. If you have purchased a certificate, please contact Stuart Fierman at 678.302.3207 for further instructions on how to redeem them.
Word on the street (take it for what it's worth) is that the people who originally leased that space from 5th group owed a ton of cash and just skipped out on them. Supposedly 5th group is going to reopen the space under their management. Reopen as what I have no idea.
When I walked by there the other day, someone was doing some painting on the patio. So it seems they're doing some updates and whatnot, hopefully to reopen SOON!
As a former employee, i can tell you that SALA is no more. 5th Group did take possession back, but is also refusing to pay us our earned wages and Tips. I would agree with Cliff, we will be seeing more of this, i just hope no more servers in this city are subjected to the hassle we have had to go through to try and get our money. (which we haven't received yet.) I repeat..the money that you the guests tipped us from June 16-June 29 never made it to us...5th Group has that money.
