Two restaurants have opened at One Peachtree Pointe (1545 Peachtree St.), the building that was home to Midcity Cuisine. I lunched at Joli Kobe today on the Nicoise salad shown here.
Mercifully, it was made with canned tuna -- not the dry, grilled hunks of thawed fish that many restaurants use now. It had the requisite boiled eggs, sliced potatoes and green beans, along with the field greens. Conspicuously missing, however, were anchovies.
This is a sister operation of the Joli Kobe in Sandy Springs that opened in 1985. It's mainly a bakery and I had to practice major will power not to buy a load of croissants and French macaroons. I settled for a sweet, crumbly, buttery macadamia cookie.
I dropped by to check out the menu at the other new restaurant, La Pietra Cucina (404-888-8709), which is operating a trattoria in the smaller dining room of the Midcity space. The larger dining room is undergoing renovation and is scheduled to open in mid-October.
The chef-owner is Bruce Logue, who has quite a resume, including a recent stay in Italy to attend the Slow Food Scoula di Cucina Regionale, after which he worked at Ristorante Uliassi on the Adriatic Coast. He is a native Atlantan who got his start at Ciboulette, a French restaurant many of us still miss. He's worked at other well known restaurants in New York and Boston, and was sous chef at Pano's and Paul's for a while.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. The menu includes surprisingly low-priced pastas, entrees and antipasti. I'll be trying it soon.
