FLIP to open next week

Posted by Cliff Bostock on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 at 6:53 PM

I ran into Richard Blais outside the Ansley Starbucks today and he said his new burger joint, FLIP, will be opening next Thursday, Dec. 4, in West Atlanta.

He had just been playing in the kitchen of the restaurant at 1157 Howell Mill Rd. and has added descriptions of a few menu items on his blog. I don't know about you, but I've gone too long without a $28, Wagyu and foie gras burger with shaved truffles.

Read Carly's earlier post for more information about FLIP.

the location is horrible. i would not head over there because of the traffic! there are so many freight trucks on that road.

Wowee. So soon? Really? I thought for sure from what I've been reading that it wouldn't have been open until after I left for those foreign climes. I'm glad but also very very cautious. When does one attempt?

I don't know about freight trucks, but the closing of the 14th St. Bridge has often made accessing Howell Mill by way of 17th Street often difficult, at least at lunchtime. As long as you take an alternative route, like 10th Street, it's not a problem. Kali: If you wanna be safe, the usual counsel is to wait 3 weeks or a month after a restaurant opens. But Blais is the creative director, so I'm not sure how much time he'll actually be spending in the kitchen, especially after things even out.

So being a "creative director" means he's going to be there only when things are going good in the press and will wash his hands of the place when it goes bad. He & his ego just needs to go away.
