Library Coffee Company, will open tomorrow in Brookhaven. This news release from Liz Schneringer wins the award for Best Written News Release of 2009, So Far:

The urban renaissance continues to expand in Atlanta’s popular northeast community of Brookhaven with Saturday's grand opening of Library Coffee Company.   Located at 2523 Caldwell Road in the new Village Place at Brookhaven shopping center (just off Dresden Drive), Library Coffee Company is answering Brookhaven’s call for an authentic neighborhood coffee house – plus a whole lot more.

Library Coffee Company’s founder and owner Brian Kahan, a local resident of Brookhaven, said he has spent many hours in coffee houses throughout his adult life, whether it was during his college years when he often found himself cramming for exams or later in life as a place to hangout and gather with his friends.

“I always found myself wanting more out of the coffee house experience –while in school," he said. "I found I needed to spend six hours or more in one place.  Usually that meant a coffee house; however, because of the limited offerings, when it was time for a meal the choice was either pound cake or a muffin.  That lead us to offer sandwiches and salads, and from there it was a natural extension to add the beer, wine and gourmet desserts.  The theory was not just to have additional food, but to give people a reason to stop by at any time of the day.”

Library Coffee Company will offer made-to-order sandwiches and salads, a variety of tapas, epicurean desserts, a rotating selection of beer on tap and an assortment of fine wines.  The menu at Library Coffee Company will also feature an array of standard espresso-based coffee beverages such as lattes and cappuccinos as well as whole-fruit smoothies and gourmet baked goods.

Kahan explained that Library Coffee Company’s name and aura is derived from “old world” coffee houses, where people often liked to go to read, catch up or play games.

Library Coffee showcases an oversized fireplace, patio seating and a convenient drive-thru for those who need a quick boost on-the-go.

Library Coffee Company will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 6 a.m.-12 midnight Thursday through Saturday. In honor of the coffee house’s grand opening, Library Coffee Company will give its first 100 customers a free airtight coffee bean storage container.

I went there in the morning with my family at around 10am. It felt crowded, although a better set-up would have probably solved the problem. A line of about 15 people and not enough seats. Regretfully, we left after 2 minutes since it was clear that things would take a while. Had to deal with my family in the car for dragging them there. I imagine they will have enough business, taking into account how many people were there already.

Wife and I went on Friday night, sorry to say, but the PR team is overpromising, and the execution is underdelivering. That said, I hope they work out the opening kinks and do well. It's better than Starbucks, that's for sure.

I stopped by the other evening to try and study. The place was empty so there was plenty of seating but the music was so loud I could barly hear myself think. Seems like it may be an ok place overtime, but definitly lacks the neighborhood feel of the cafes around East Atlanta (Joes, Parkgrounds, Danatannes, etc).

Went by this morning to try them out and found it was lacking on the part of the coffee itself. I got a latte and it had a stale burnt quality to it that was unpleasant. Thinking it was just me had another girl in my office taste it to be sure, and yep was definitely not good. I asked someone there where they got the beans and she told me it was a roaster in Tulsa, so this could explain the stale quality. The muffin was tasty and they had a cute set-up so could be nice to chill out there, but I will not be getting my morning cup there. Think I will stick with Get Coffee, a little further north but great coffee.

Surprised by the comments above-what a bunch of whining pretentious losers- Great atmoshere and great food-the coffee is great in th morningand the beer and wine at night is nice change as well. Any slow service was at best a result of just opening and things are great now-nelu above is sad-two minutes is too long to wait? Get a life-and keep your sad family out of there-they probably complain too and I am sure you are looking for just a handout anyways- Sounds like all the people above work at the Dunkin Donuts near by-

Wow that last person sounds like they work for them, way to take it personally - maybe it's the owner or something. Anyway I haven't been in there yet but I'll come back and post my review, I'm not pretentious at all so it'll be coming from a pretty normal standpoint.
