Anyone got a memory?

Posted by Cliff Bostock on Thu, Jan 29, 2009 at 3:41 PM

An inquiry from a reader:

Do you remember the name of the Vietnamese place on Piedmont near Rock Springs?  Must have been 15 years ago?  What place in town now do you think has the best Vietnamese?

Does anyone remember the name of the restaurant? Frankly, I don't even remember one there. I do remember one at the corner of Cheshire Bridge and Lenox Road that I loved. I can't recall its name either.

The best Vietnamese is at Com, Nam and Chateau de Saigon.

The restaurant was called Ben Chow (probably not spelled right, but that is how it was pronounced). I believe the chef is now associated with Au Rendezvous on Windsor in the Brookhaven/Lynwood park area. The (caucasian) husband ran the front of the house and his Vietnamese wife ran the kitchen. I seemed to remember a story about growing up in a family that cooked in the French Embassy at Saigon. Food was very good - quirky and cheap.

Com has the best Vietnamese! Order the flat rice vermicelli with rice paper on the side for do-it-yourself spring rolls....Mmmmmm

Yeah, that was it. I don't know the spelling either. It had a lot of French Vietnamese food (remember the roasted mussels?)
