Buy me a Popeyes, please

Posted by Cliff Bostock on Thu, Apr 16, 2009 at 2:37 PM

As you probably know, Agnes and Muriel's, the once very popular retro diner on Monroe Drive, moved not long ago to a building on Piedmont, acros from Bones. It's already for sale:

Agnes & Murial's has just opened their brand new location in February 2009 at 3133 Piedmont Road, (Buckhead), Atlanta, Georgia 30305. Unbelievable hi traffic, hi density, very hi income location with super roadside visibility. Across the street from BONES and steps away from the intersection of Peachtree and Piedmont and near Lenox Mall.... Motherhood and personal reasons force sale of brand restaurant. Priced at $95,000.00 with Owner Financing. Name is not included in purchase but could be licensed or bought separately.

Check out the Shumacher Group's website for pictures of the place. They ain't purty.

I also notice that Harry Bissett's, where I had one of the worst meals ever, has closed. Its location is for rent.

I'm sorry to see that Chocolate Pink, the pastry cafe next to Cuerno and Beleza in Midtown, is also on the market. It comes with its own apartment.

Please, I beg you: Buy me my own Popeyes.

I went to A&G's Buckhead relocation recently for brunch and it was a train wreck. Chicken and waffles? Nope: chicken and pancakes, the server told us the waffle iron was broken and they hadn't gotten around to buying a new one. And the vegetable plate was a portrait of blandness. Good luck to whoever buys that flagging name brand ... hope if someone does buy the name with the building that they see if they can snag some of the original recipes as part of the deal.

I meant A&M, not A&G ... the memory of that meal dislodged clear thinking ...

Sorry to hear about A&M. Not sorry to hear about Harry's, it was both horrible and expensive. I need to give Chocolate Pink a try so maybe we don't have to wave bye-bye.

What a terrible location to open an A&M. Hi-traffic? Has all the charm of an interstate rest area.

True. I live almost right next to it and haven't been.

I was crestfallen that A&M moved to Buckhead when I happened upon by accident a couple of months ago. At first I thought, "They opened another one? Huh. Good for them." Then when I saw that the former building was for sale, I realized the error. A&M was the site of my birthday dinner for many years and even though the new management has botched the hell out of the menu, I am sorry it's for sale.

The new A&M looks like it should be called S&M. It belongs on Cheshire Br. as one of the "Private Dancer" places. Filthy kitchen too.

Wow that new A&M space lacks all the charm of the original. Very sad.

word on the street is a CL 4**** restaurant will be closing by July. Chef de Cuisine leaving. Long Long time General Manager leaving. Long time servers leaving. Guess 3 course pasta nights @ 12$ a head aren't cutting it.

OH NO! Madras Sri Ganesh Ram Palace is also for sale... if you remember, they have the same food, menu and chefs that were at the original Madras Saravana Bhavan before it was taken over by a corporate operation. maybe they should re open in decatur instead of waaay up 78 in stone mountain. http://shumacher.com/images/ram/ram.html

This is kind of sad. While I wasn't a fan of A&M (the one time we went there, the service was appalling), it was cute and they clearly had their niche. Moving to that horrible-looking, but well-loacted new venue (which I recently passed and thought, "wft?")must have been quite an ordeal, and now to have to close up? That they didn't retire on a winning season and close from the Mem Drive location speaks of some hard personal decisions of the owners. I'll go out on a limb with my speculation and offer them my sympathy.

When I drove past the original A&M location some time ago seeing it dark and with some paper sign in the front window, I simply assumed it finally closed and thought to myself "good riddance." I had not been in many years after an awful experience there - the final straw after suffering a long run of mediocre food when visiting. I had no idea they had moved to a building I remember was once a Schlotzky's Deli location.
