Breakfast at Stone Soup

I seldom eat more than a cup of oatmeal (with dried cherries and brown sugar) for breakfast, but I woke up starving Wednesday morning. I beat a path to Stone Soup Kitchen, not a mile from our house in Grant Park.

I ordered this version of huevos rancheros -- two over-easy eggs layered with black beans, salsa fresca and cheese between two corn tortillas and topped with red sauce and sour cream. Great flavors all around, with eggs cooked just right.

Stone Soup serves breakfast and lunch until 3 p.m. weekdays and serves brunch 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Soup specials are available daily. One of Wednesday's was curried beef sausage in  ham stock with mushrooms, garlic and Swiss chard.

When I lived over in Cabbagetown, this place was definitely on the regular rotation for breakfast. Affordable, tasty, and I like the staff and the atmosphere.
