Urban pL8 opens in West Atlanta

I've had two good meals -- one lunch and one dinner -- at Urban pL8 (1082 Huff Rd., 404-367-0312), a cafe that has opened in the space vacated by Pangaea.

Lunch, which is served Tuesday-Saturday, was this barbecue-glazed pork loin sandwich with jalapeno slaw. It's messy, impossible to pick up, so plan to use your fork and knife. You won't mind.

The restaurant is only for dinner Friday and Saturday night only for now. I started with this salad of heirloom tomatoes and avocados with parmesan cheese, basil, pear vinegar and black truffle oil.

Wayne ordered the best dish I've tasted here so far -- grilled scallops with roasted tomatoes and fingerling potatoes over green beans.

I ordered this sliced hanger steak with garlicky mashed potatoes and an interesting salsa verde.

There was only one disappointment -- a minor one -- but you'll have to read "Grazing" later this week to get the scoop on that. Meanwhile, make a reservation for this weekend. Prices are quite reasonable.

That doesn't look like a barbecue-glazed pork loin sandwich at all. It looks like a gooey fish burger. Don't get me wrong, I'd eat the hell out of it, but it just doesn't look like bbq pork (loin).
