Sauced (finally) opens

SAUCED room
Here's a kind of kinky riff on a popular dish from the past (above). It's Ria Pell's version of  Beef Wellington, featuring a Guiness-braised short rib inside a pastry shell. Pell, who owns Ria's Bluebird, is serving this dish at her new restaurant, Sauced, which opened in Inman Park on Monday.

Sauced is delightfully designed with curved banquettes, wood paneling and lamps from the early '60s. Taxidermied fish and antlers, along with copper mallards, decorate the walls.

There's a full bar.

We also ordered rosemary-skewered chicken livers (with fennel-apple jam); a Caesar salad made with char-grilled romaine lettuce; and blackened cod with grits, fontina cheese and tomato chutney.

Dessert was this "lemon Moon Pie," made with lemon mousse between two ginger cookies dipped in white chocolate. It was yummy, but the cookies were so hard we had to stab them with a knife to break them up.

One warning: the restaurant only accepts cash. There is an ATM in a cabinet on the patio. This seems to be a trend. Nearby Thumbs Up has long required cash, as does the new Pizzeria Vesuvius.

I'll have more to say in a few weeks in my "Grazing" column.

Congrats Ria! I am very happy to see you on your way to become another Atlanta classic! Also, Pizzeria Vesuvius now takes charge cards...funny enough we started accepting them tonight at 6pm!

Where is the review? This was a rundown of what you ate with no opinion? I still have no idea if this is worth going to. You get paid to do this?

Dear So?? As Cliff says, he will have more to say in an upcoming column. That column will likely be followed by a starred review, once the restaurant has been open an appropriate amount of time to warrant said review. If the knowledge that the restaurant is open and an overview of the type of food they serve is upsetting to you, we sincerely apologize.

I get the withholding of judgment until a place is on it's feet. But, Besha Rodell isn't convincing anyone with her arch claim to sincerity.

"Where is the review? This was a rundown of what you ate with no opinion? I still have no idea if this is worth going to. You get paid to do this?" You should get paid to bitch and moan. Reading Comprehension wouldn't hurt either. "But, Besha Rodell isn’t convincing anyone with her arch claim to sincerity." Arch claim to sincerity??? Does your Vocabulary beep when it backs up? Incredible that within 6 responses you people find 2 opportunities to gripe. Stay at home, please. Congrats to Ria and the Sauced crew. Looking forward to great things.

I just finished dinner at Sauced (1/02) & love what Ria's done with the space. The soup was delicious, as were the black-eyed pea fritters. Actually everything we had was delicious. It's probably worth noting that they have a roomy parking lot just to the left and that they're only accepting cash right now.

Yeah, we discovered the parking lot as we were LEAVING, OKGA. Thanks for bringing it up.
