There are whispers in Reynoldstown that the Standard Food & Spirits in Grant Park would be shutting its doors next week.
Well, it actually closed yesterday. But just for renovations.
Owner Chris Johnson tells CL that he's shut down the filling-station-turned-neighborhood-restaurant to install 18 new taps, overhaul the seating area, and revamp the menu.
"We're redoing the menu to be more gastronomically friendly without getting too pretentious," Johnson says. Such regulars' favorites as the hummus plate will remain and beer selection will increase by 150 percent. Johnson says more details will be revealed on the restaurant's Facebook page as the project continues. (We're having a hard time finding the page. If you know the link, please leave it in the comments.)
They'll re-open on Feb. 20 to host a pub crawl, take a day off to conduct a final walkthrough, and then officially start back up on Feb. 22.

That's good news that their re-doing their menu, as I found their old menu bland and altogether lacking.
I like the Standard and the folks who run the place are great. And, their commitment to the neighborhood is excellent - we visited one day when they were hosting a fundraiser for a local dog rescue group (I'm surprised we didn't go home with a litter of dogs). If they could do away with Smoking inside it would be perfect.
