James Beard foundation announces semifinalists

The James Beard Foundation has just announced their semifinalist list for the chef and restaurant awards. (Link opens a PDF). These are not the nominees, but the list that the nominees will be chosen from. Of interest locally:

Pano Karatassos, of Buckhead Life Restaurant Group is on the list for Outstanding Restaurateur.

Scott Peacock of Watershed is being considered for Outstanding Chef.

Kevin Gillespie of the Woodfire Grill is being considered for Rising Star Chef of the Year.

Miller Union is on the list for Best New Restaurant.

And in Best Chef in the Southeast, Hugh Acheson (Five and Ten, the National), Billy Allin (Cakes & Ale), and Linton Hopkins (Restaurant Eugene), are all on the list.

Interestingly, Atlanta has no representation in the wine service, wine professionals, or outstanding service categories. Hmmm....

Nominees will be announced on March 22.
