Lunch at Bocado

Posted by Cliff Bostock on Fri, Mar 5, 2010 at 8:34 PM

bocado cauliflower

This -- a roasted cauliflower sandwich -- was my lunch today at Bocado in the Westside. Besides the slightly crunchy cauliflower, the sandwich included Chinese and Thai eggplant, cilantro and spicy mayo. It was very much like the Vietnamese banh mi.

Actually, four of us went to Abattoir first but were disappointed to learn that it is no longer open for lunch. We were all tuned up to consume offal.

Bocado more than compensated. Its lunch menu is all sandwiches and salads. Other sandwiches at the table included a classic Cuban, another featuring braised short ribs and one combining ham and pork  with avocado, chili and cheese. Dessert was the restaurant's incomparable chocolate pudding (with bananas, peanuts and caramel whip).

I had that sandwich on my first visit and really enjoyed it also - I found it much better than their take on the banh mi, although I do agree it shares banh mi tendencies. I also really like the chocolate pudding dessert here as well as the tomato soup.
