Omnivore - Repast: the place to be Monday night
The restaurant is frying-up chicken, Japanese-style
This is what you’re eating next Monday — the “Japanese-fried” chicken at Repast. It’s available, with Yuzu-dressed salad and a dessert, for $14 every Monday night.
The chicken has a slightly thicker, crunchier coating than the usual flour-dredged Southern chicken. Repast uses potato starch and the effect is delicious. My serving included a leg, a thigh and 1.5 wings.
Dessert this Monday was a souffle cheese cake surrounded by blueberries and raspberries, topped with whipped cream. I’d love to see something that riffs on a classic Southern dessert instead.
Note the container for the chicken. It’s a menu folded into tray form. Origami — sort of — forever!
