Restaurants Woody's Cheesesteaks reopening with new owner

Woody's Famous Philadelphia Cheesesteaks, a Midtown landmark since 1975, is reopening with a new owner and menu (including vegetarian options), according to WhatNowAtlanta.com. The restaurant, long open only until late afternoon, will now open daily for dinner too -- until 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
I remember lunching at Woody's frequently back in the early '80s. At the time, it was the only place in town you could get a reasonable facsimile of an authentic cheesesteak. Cheesesteaks are about as controversial with Yankees as barbecue is with Southerners, so the restaurant always had lots of fans and critics. I spent part of my childhood outside Philly and Woody's bread never seemed just right to me. One thing I never questioned, though, was the restaurant's killer milkshakes.
The WhatNowAtlanta peeps have also unearthed a likely explanation for the seemingly endless delay in the opening of a new seafood restaurant, Croakers Spot, at 476 Edgewood Ave. Those of us who live in the area have been looking forward to the restaurant's promised "nouveau soul cuisine" for months. But it looks like money problems may have derailed the opening.
