Yet another burger joint: Googie Burger to open near CNN Center.

Posted by Besha Rodell on Tue, Jun 8, 2010 at 8:20 PM

While digging for information about a new, top-secret restaurant project on the east side of town, our News Editor Scott Henry came across this: a new burger concept called Googie Burger is in the works downtown. Named after Googie architecture, it's safe to assume the burger joint will be somewhat space-aged (hmmm, space aged burger joint. Wow. So original). Details on the ownership, talent and timetable of the new project are still emerging; we'll keep you posted as we find out more.

I sense there may be some confusion about the new burger joint downtown. As the above post states, there is a new burger joint opening soon near CNN Center and it may vary well be called “Googie Buger”, though I kinda doubt it. Instead, as previously announced, FountainSide Café at Centennial Olympic Park will reopen in early July as an as yet unnamed burger eatery. Serving fresh made burgers, fries shakes and more, it will be similar to the likes of the Shake Shack in New York. The Googie element comes into play as the restaurant will feature googie architecture designed by Turner Associates Architects & Planners of Atlanta in conjunction with ai3. I spoke with Mark Banta, General Manager of C.O.P. today and while he would not confirm or deny Googie Burger to be the name of the upcoming eatery, I personally think it will be something more Atlanta-centric, but who knows.

Hi Eli - what I know is that a local PR company has confirmed with me that they are representing a new concept called Googie Burger. Hopefully will have more info tomorrow - not sure if it's in the FountainSide spot or not, but again, should have all those details tomorrow.

Hi Besha- Just checked out the space tonight. I think you are right about the name and I think we are both speaking of the same structure. From the progress I saw, I'd be surprised if they are open by July 4th, but definitely by mid July. Looking forward to hearing what you find out later this week. I too will put my feelers out for intel ;)
