Restaurant Eugene, Tues., Sept. 28: Chef Linton Hopkins will be launching his new dinner series at Restaurant Eugene. The James Beard Nominated Chef will pair up with Atlantan author Susan Rebecca White to produce an evening and menu inspired by the author’s work. Four-course dinner with pairings. $85. Doc Chey’s, Tues., Sept. 28: Dine in or take out dinner to support Grant Park Neighborhood Charter School & ACMS. 15% of your bill will go towards the school. 5-10 p.m. 404-688-4238.

Flight Night at SOHO, Wed., Sept. 29: Event features samples of three different South American wine in flights. A glass of wine may also be paired with a tapas plate for $12. Watershed September Wine Club, Wed., Sept. 29: Michael Young from L'Aventure Winery will showcase the L'Aventure 'Optimus'. Other wines that will be featured include Vina Robles Petite Sirah and McPrice Meyers Viogner. Atkins Park Tavern Oktoberfest, Thurs., Sept. 30: Event features traditional German fare from Chef Andrew Smith and Sam Adams Oktoberfest on draft. Gordon Biersch, Thurs., Sept. 30: Gordon Biersch and Hop City partners up to bring guests the Lager Wars Beer Dinner. Atlanta BBQ Festival, Sat., Oct. 2: Second annual festival includes more than 50 BBQ teams competing for trophies and bragging rights. Plus, barbecue offerings and other festival food, a kids’ area and live music. $6 advance, $10 at door, value pack $25 by phone or Internet only. Marietta Wine Market, Sat., Oct. 2: “White Hot Reds” themed wine tasting that features 2007 Californian Cabernets, Merlots, and Chardonnays that are full-bodied, supple and loaded with flavor. No cost, but donations towards charity are accepted. 2-4 p.m. 770-919-1574.

Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, Sat., Oct. 2: Atlanta’s Best Cellars dinner features gourmet food and wine, plus a live and silent auction to benefit the T.J. Field of Greens Festival, Sun., Oct. 3: 5th annual festival at Whippoorwill Hollow Organic Farm that features locally grown food by Atlanta and Athens' farm-to-table chefs, cooking demos, and live music. Local Atlanta chefs including Matt Swickerath of Valenza Restaurant, Stephen Herman of HAVEN Restaurant, and Carvel Grant Gould of Canoe will also be in attendance. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. $15 advance, $20 gate. The Cook’s Warehouse Midtown, Mon., Oct. 4: Chef Shane Touhy of Dogwood will be teaching the first Simple Abundance Cooking Class of the quarter. Attendees will learn how to prepare a three-course meal including an Acorn Squash Soup, Tupelo Honey glazed Berkshire Pork Loin and Fall Salad, and a Pear and Apple Cobbler.
