Speaking of book deals and Top Chef, Eater is reporting that Kevin Gillespie has scored a lucrative contract to write two cookbooks:

Atlanta's Woodfire Grill chef/owner and season six Top Chef "fan favorite" Kevin Gillespie got himself a two-book cookbook deal. According to Publishers Marketplace, it got picked up by Andrews McMeel Publishing in a preempt, meaning that it went for a nice chunk of change. One book for him and one for his beard?

The cookbooks were described as "the author's passion for his food showcased through rustic, raw, and "heirloomesque" photos and celebrating Kevin's philosophy that learning is one of the key values in good cooking."

As it happens, I stopped by Morelli's Thursday night for my usual weekly dose of the city's best ice cream. Gillespie creates regular flavors for Morelli's and this week's paid homage to Halloween. It came as layer of chocolate with peanuts topped by honey-orange vanilla.

I have to say it was a treat replete with a trick. Wedged between the top layer and my waffle cone was a half-dozen kernels of candy corn. The kernels were frozen to tooth-shattering hardness. I'll pass in the future, although I give Morelli's and Gillespie a thumbs-up for being scary.
