Nannies abuse Ronald McDonald!

Bob Barr pulls out the tired canard of "the nanny state" to oppose regulation of marketing of sickening food directly to children.

It's not an effort to discontinue McDonald's Happy Meals or to function in loco parentis, Bob. It's an effort to help parents raise children who don't squawk for unhealthy crap to eat in order to get a toy.

But, okay, let's allow R. J. Reynolds to market cigarettes directly to teenage boys by including a condom imprinted with the image of a nude Britney Spears in each pack.

The problem here isn't reasonable regulation. We regulate all kinds of things that pose risks to public health. The problem is a failure of people like Bob Barr to comprehend how incredibly damaging typical fast food is to children.
