The Wrecking Bar Brewpub announced via their Facebook page that they are planning their grand opening for Sunday June 19, which also happens to be Father’s Day (hope your dad likes beer).
Morelli’s has announced the opening date for their second location. Get your free scoops and celebrate the opening of Morelli’s at Edgewood on June 4 (free scoops for the first 2 hours only). The new store also contains a milkshake bar and a sundae bar with rotating selections that Kevin Gillespie, who is a partner in this new Morelli’s location, will create each season. The Morelli’s shop is located in the space that previously housed Coldstone Creamery, just inside the main Moreland entrance to the shopping center.
As Cliff reported earlier today, Bad Dog Taqueria is now open in Emory Village. Bad Dog is working on a menu of signature cocktails to accompany a selection of craft beers, but for they time being, it’s BYOB. Get on it, kids! Bad Dog will be open weekdays for dinner and will serve both lunch and dinner on weekends.
The Howell Mill Food Park is a new dedicated parking ground for food trucks. They'll host their first big food truck event next Tuesday evening with over 10 trucks participating. The Food Park is located behind Willy's on Howell Mill. Look for a post with more details later today on Omnivore.
In other food truck news, Season 2 of The Great Food Truck Race doesn’t include any Atlanta trucks, but the competing teams will make a stop in here. The trucks will roll through Atlanta this weekend. A tweet from the father of The Lime Truck’s Chef Jason does reveal some Atlanta ties - Jason was born at Piedmont Hospital and grew up in Decatur (how cute is it that his dad is tweeting to support him?!) Follow the conversation on Twitter to see where to find the trucks - we know some of them will be at Atlantic Station.
Antico Pizza has announced plans to take over the world. Owner Giovanni Di Palma reassures fans that the pizza will remain the same, no matter if you’re eating it in Atlanta or Beijing.
Esquire put out their list of America’s Best Bars. A few Atlanta watering holes made the list: The Clermont Lounge, One Flew South, Manuel's Tavern, and Holeman & Finch.
Indigo Bar & Lounge has gained NPU approval, a major step toward opening their Edgewood Avenue bar. Indigo will be located in the same strip as Miso Izakaya.
Radio personality Frank Ski is opening a restaurant called... wait for it... Frank Ski’s. Not much information has surfaced, but Frank teased that his project was coming soon via his blog. Permits for the restaurant, located at 2110 Peachtree Road (previously VITA, Thirsty Dog), are currently under review.
Zach Morris - I mean Mark-Paul Gosselaar - and Breckin Meyer, stars of the new TNT show Franklin & Bash, were spotted dining at South City Kitchen Midtown this week.
Another Atlanta chef is hitting the small screen. Ray’s Restaurants Corporate Executive Chef Tom McEachern is starring on The Food Network’s “Chopped” on Tuesday, May 31 at 10 p.m., competing against four other chefs in a culinary battle with surprise ingredients.
Colombo, a Marsala wine brand, will be holding a competition for chefs, Complimenti del Cuoco: Colombo Recipe Challenge, asking them to make a dish that uses Marsala in an innovative way. Participating restaurants - which include Abattoir, The Shed at Glenwood, Pricci, Goldfish, One Midtown Kitchen, Meehan’s Public House (downtown location), Sprig, Rosebud and The Buckhead Club - will offer their dish as a daily special during service June 10-17. Diners can vote for their favorite recipe online.
The Callan Cafe, a fairly new addition the the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center in Druid Hils, offers an Irish coffee shop environment with coffee speciality drinks, desserts and snacks. The cafe also plans to add an outdoor terrace with views of the garden and grounds. Hours are Mondays through Thursdays: 9:00 am to 11:30 am and 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Saturdays: 9:00 am to 12:00 noon and they have free Wi-Fi.
