Haven’t you ever gone to a farmer’s market and thought to yourself, “man, all this hydroponic lettuce and quinoa salad is great and all, but this place could really use some booze”?

Well, the East Atlanta Village Farmers Market will soon be getting some, in the form of a cocktail competition celebrating the Georgia peach. The farmers market has paired up with Slow Food Atlanta to put on the first annual Peach Cocktail Mix-Off on Thursday, June 30, an Iron Chef-esque event that benefits the market.

Here’s how it’ll work: Contestants will meet at the market at 6 p.m. and each will receive a type of alcohol to work with - their “secret ingredient” of the evening. Then, they’ll have 30 min. to shop around the market and find other fresh ingredients to include in their cocktail. The mix-off will begin at 6:30 across the street at the Midway Pub, and contestants will use the ingredients they bought from the market, their own ingredients and the provided peaches and ice to create their drink. The cocktails will then be judged based on three criteria: taste, creativity and preparation. The winner will recieve $200 and the winning drink will appear on Midway Pub’s menu for a week.
