Gravy Train: Growlettes at Hop City, Lime Fresh coming to Buckhead

Posted by Laura Horton on Fri, Sep 16, 2011 at 11:43 AM

This weekend, HopCity is launching growlettes, mini-growlers for those nights when 64 ounces of draft goodness is just too much to handle. The 32-ounce Growlettes feature specially designed artwork by Esperanza. Growlettes are pre-filled, but Hop City assures that they are fresh, and range from $10 - $25 depending on your beer choice. Hop City is the first Atlanta area store to offer mini-growlers.

Atlanta will soon be getting our first Lime Fresh, a Miami-based burrito and taco joint. Lime Fresh offers homemade salsa, humanely raised meat and the like plus a handful of healthy options (or as healthy as Mexican food gets). Lime, whose expansion is partially due to a licensing agreement with Ruby Tuesday’s, will be located on West Paces Ferry Road in Buckhead and is planning on opening in early to mid 2012. They will move in to the Johnny Rocket's space - which is set to close soon.

Construction permits filed for demolition in the former Sweet Devil Moon/Nonna Mia building in Midtown, with a new spot listed as Bistro 980 moving in to the location some say is cursed.

MODERN, a restaurant, tasting room and market, will move in to the former Copeland’s location in Buckhead. In an announcement by We Sell Restaurants, who brokered the MODERN deal, the restaurant is described as serving New American cuisine in a casual, elegant dining environment. The Tasting Room will feature a nightly multi-course tasting menu and a chef’s table overlooking the kitchen. MODERN’s Market will be a coffee shop with homemade baked goods, plus prepared meals and sauces available for purchase.

Smashburger will open their third Atlanta location, this time on Windward Parkway in Alpharetta, on September 28.

Park’s Edge appeared on "Good Day Atlanta" this week as a part of their "Kitchen Nightmares" makeover with Chef Gordon Ramsay. The appearance was intended to help make nice with the local neighborhood association, which has made an effort to deny the location a liquor permit in the past.

Eater Atlanta confirms an opening date of September 22 for HD1, the gourmet hot dog and sausage concept from Richard Blais. With toppings like red currant compote and minted cucumber salad, these dogs are quite a departure from their ballpark counterparts.

Tomorrow’s News Today has the scoop on White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails, a new downtown restaurant from the owner of Max Lager’s. The moderns Southern concept will move in to the old All Star Cafe space on Peachtree.

Local Atlanta restaurant This Is It! BBQ and Seafood took top honors in the barbecue category at last month’s Hoodie Awards, a national awards event produced and hosted by Steve Harvey. The Hoodie Awards honor businesses, religious establishments and community leaders for their contributions to neighborhoods across America. This is It! has eight Atlanta-area locations.

Downtown’s Hyatt Regency announced the opening of their new restaurant, Sway, which aims to turn hotel dining into a comfortable, casual experience with homestyle Southern dishes. Sway also boasts Atlanta’s only Southern pie bar, a family-style smorgasbord with a wide variety of pies baked daily on the premises.

Thrillist checks in on the new Take Away Cafe, located in West Midtown. The to-go spot specializes in grab-and-go meals and sandwiches and is open weekdays from 11 a.m. - 2p.m.

Boston Market has re-vamped their Atlanta locations with updates including real plates for dine-in guests, new sides like squash casserole, and a variety of new sauce options. Boston Market has locations in Atlanta, Duluth, Lilburn, Marietta, Roswell, Sandy Springs and Stone Mountain.

Cafe 640 is introducing a Sunday Sliders menu - 3 for $5 - featuring creations like Pine Street Market kielbasa sliders with caramelized onions and marinated peppers or roasted buffalo chicken and blue cheese sliders.

Fans of One Flew South’s Dwayne Nutter can tune in to hear the chef on AM 1690’s "Atlanta's International Airport" show, where he’ll chat about the unique world of airport dining. The show airs this upcoming Monday, September 19th at 8:30 am and 6:30 pm on WMLB-AM (1690).

Ummm...Hop City isn't the first to have 32 oz. growlers; The Beer Growler in Avondale Estates has had them since early August.

God Damn. Windward Parkway is NOT Atlanta. Smashburger is opening up a new location out in the fucking sticks amongst a banal, monotonous clustering of people who will consider it fine dining. Get your shit straight.

This Is It! seems to be in the news alot lately. Didn't they just get hit with a 106,000.00 fine for labor law violations? Now that's a great contribution to the neighborhood. Damn Steve Harvey you sure know how to pick a winner.

Growlettes - smaller and more expensive than growlers? Sign me up! On another note, noticed that Dancing Goats in Decatur is offering growlers of iced coffee, which is a nice idea.

Atlanta Advocate you are an idiot. Really!!!! We live in the suburbs cause we like the quiet and good school systems for our kids. We don't consider a hamburger joint fine dining. Check your facts before you show your intelligence level.
