Gravy Train: MF Sushibar Closes, a new chef for West Egg

MF Sushibar closed the doors on the original Ponce location this week. Owner Chris Kinjo told the AJC that the neighborhood has gone down hill in recent years, with many empty storefronts surrounding the high-end sushi restaurant. MF Sushi Buckhead will remain open, and Kinjo is also scouting locations in other cities for expansion.

Executive Chef Patric Bell announced that he’s leaving West Egg after seven years at the West Midtown brunch darling. Bell also discloses that a new project is in the works, though he won’t share details yet. Stepping up to the plate at West Egg is Brandon Frohne, taking over as the new Executive Chef. Frohne, who recently migrated to Atlanta from Nashville, previously held the role of Winery Chef at Chateau Elan.

East Atlanta’s Blue Frog Cantina will be closing for good this on Sunday, with owners posting a farewell message via Facebook. The space is reportedly going to be re-opening as an Irish Pub.

Fifth Group’s Alma Cocina has named December 6 as their official opening date.

PR goddess Melissa Libby tweets that Kevin Gillespie is working on a Morrocan dinner with guest chef Mourad Lahlou of San Francisco’s Michelin-rated Aziza. December 12 at Woodfire Grill.

Decatur Metro shares a peek at the patio construction at Leon’s, where they are putting up a new pergola to support fans and heaters while adding some shade - presumably extending the outdoor dining season at the popular Decatur spot.

See’s Candies and their famous white uniforms invaded local malls this week, opening pop-up shops for the holiday season.

Cacao was featured last Sunday on Georgia Traveler.

Flying Biscuit will open their Brookhaven location in the Town Boulevard Shopping Center this coming Monday. This is the ninth Georgia location for Flying Biscuit. The location will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Leaf Cigar Lounge, located on Monroe Drive in the Trader Joe’s center, is now open. The cigar lounge has a full bar and also serves small plates.
