Hunger skyrockets in Georgia's wealthiest area

Posted by Cliff Bostock on Sat, Nov 26, 2011 at 10:30 AM

When CBS's "Sunday Morning" show did a piece on food stamps and the "new poor," where did they go for the story? To Atlanta's suburbs:

In Forsyth County's rolling subdivisions near Atlanta, Easy Street seems to run forever. What recession? The average household here earns $88,000 - the highest in Georgia, 13th highest in America.

But for more families here, prosperity is a pretense. The job's lost, the savings are gone, and the big house is either in foreclosure or on its way. And just keeping food on the table is a struggle.

So Forsyth's newly-needy file into local food banks.

Please watch the video. If you are among those who conclude that the 15 percent of Americans now on food stamps are shirking their responsibilities, the video may give you a different perspective. Two years after the Great Recession supposedly ended, food stamp use continues to skyrocket.

Haha..this has nothing to do with shirking responsibility - it has to do with idiots who were lured 30-40 miles away from where they worked at the abundantly clear falsification of the promise of the American dream...serves these idiots right.

The two that made a comment before me are the most heartless people and I hope and pray you never have to hit rock bottom. It does not matter who you are, how rich you are or what you may drive, you still can fall. Get a heart or shut UP!!!

As a resident of Cumming I can tell you, METH brakes a lot of bank accounts. Come with me and I will show you that every convenience store up here is loaded with crack pipes, bongs and other drug paraphernalia. These people, mostly are broke because of poor life choices.
I see it, you just read it.

WOW, just look at the Price's. Driving a nice 4 Runner and having a baby they can't afford while picking up their free food. DAMN DAMN DAMN.
It never ceases to amaze me....the people that cry broke.

Holy shit! Why do you think it's different with these people and millions others? They were doing fine before the recession hit. They lost their jobs, savings and/or their retirement accounts.

Did you even watch the video? You seriously think these are crystal users? Is somebody supposed to lead their life with the expectation that the worst recession since the 30s might affect them in a few years? Are you serious?

Forsyth has a couple different income levels of people. There are rich folks who wanted a bigger house than the one they had in North Fulton. people who have second houses on the Lake. But there are also people (some of whom have meth problems in their families) who were never really doing that well to begin with. Forsyth was only recently turned into a suburb of Atlanta. Even ten years ago, it was mostly countryside.
