The Panini Wars

I lunched with friends recently at Baroni, the Italian cafe on Peachtree near Brookwood Station. I enjoyed it, as I have in the past, but my panino did remind me of the continual complaining I hear about the prices up the street at La Pietra Cucina.

I ordered the panino with prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula and roasted red peppers (right) at Baroni. Except for an overabundance of the red peppers, the sandwich was a nice version of a classic. It cost $8. At Pietra, the panini cost $9 or $10 and use superior ingredients in more generous quantities. Pasta dishes at Baroni range from $8 to $16. At Pietra, they are $12 to $15.

So, if you're in the mood for a great panino, go to La Pietra. But if you want pizza, you'll have to go to Baroni. If you want pasta, it's your call, depending on whether $3 makes a difference to you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for using the proper singular and plural of the word "panino"!

Now if restaurant owners would quit being ignorant morons, and would stop writing the non-word "paninis" all over the fucking place, the world would be improved.

Well stated report. If not knowing how panini is pluralized is what sets that guy off, not to mention makes him think it qualifies as, "ignorant morons," being a nerd is the least of his issues. I'm hoping he doesn't own any sharp objects.

I'll add this datum on the lengths to which we must go to preserve the proper distinction between the singular and plural of foreign words to my list.

I wish Baroni would serve the paninis (I think the plural is correct in this instance!) at night. Their dinner menu is bizarre and has gotten worse over the last few months. This is one of my favorite places for a dinner that isn't hectic and where I don't have to make a reservation. They seriously need a dinner menu consultant and need to improve their wine selection. I've heard that owners are almost never there and spend more time at Baraonda. If only Baroni were more like Baraonda I think it would be far more successful.

Damnit...why was the "paninis" comment removed?? Not only was it funny, but now people are going to think I'm some crazy son of a bitch because my shit is all out of context now. Man, you guys are assholes.
