Lunch at Eclipse, a new dinner club, scary news about Wong's ramen

Lunch today was at Eclipse di Luna. I ordered this special of fried shrimp that actually tasted like shrimp on ciabatta with papas bravas. A super bargain at less than $10 and quite comparable to a certain shrimp po' boy that's a favorite of Atlanta foodies....

If you want to try the insanely good ramen noodles that Guy Wong has been preparing at Miso Izakaya after 10 p.m., you better hurry. The $10 bowls are labor-intensive, to say the least, and may soon be history. I urged Wong to increase the price rather than discontinue the special. But the end is nigh. So hurry, get there soon...like during the coming week....

From the very talented Hopeton Hibbert:

Culinary Arts and Excellence presents the 1st Flavor Excursions dinner party. It will be taking place next Thursday night, January 12, at a convenient Grant Park location. You are cordially invited to join a select few for this private dinner. The nights theme is ITALIAN! We will be serving antipasti and entrees family style. plus delicious fine Italian wines for a fee of $30 per person. If you plan on attending please email me at flavorexcursions@gmail.com. The first 6 people who respond will receive the location and further instructions. We plan on doing this as often as possible, so stay tuned.

Re: a certain shrimp po' boy that's a favorite of Atlanta foodies, I hope you're talking Star Provisions. Killer po' boy!

Whatever about the ramen. We went one Friday night before the holidays. They didn't have the ramen and the answer was basically that they didn't feel like making it that night. And besides, they'd be out the minute they said they had it, said the person at the door. Love the place, but they needed a revolving door for us that night.

We made the Chang/Lucky Peach ramen after that fiasco, so I have an idea of the effort involved. But the reason the HF burgers are so hyped is that they actually make enough for a reasonable number of folks to experience them.

Bummed that we wasted time on an infrequent night out for us parental types. So, either make the noodles on a regular basis or don't do it at all, just don't be a tease.

Excellent ramen noodles can be found at Umaido in Suwanee. They specialize in this type of food. Yes, it is a long trip but it is worth it.

We second Umaido. Make the trip out frequently and have to say that it is the best ramen in Atlanta, and would give any spot in the US a run for its money!

Shoya Izakaya has good ramen too. Not as complex as Miso's, but it's available all night long.
