A few weeks ago I took my Wednesday nights back. I stood boldly before my television and declared, "I will not go quietly into the night! I will no longer subject myself to your blindfolded barbecued foolishness!" It was like this:
It was incredible, mostly because Bill Pullman and Will Smith are my roommates. But last night was the finale so I watched it and I'm glad I did. I was a great episode and a testament to the fact that "Top Chef" can be compelling WHEN IT'S ABOUT CHEFS COOKING DELICIOUS FOOD.
In the end it came down to Sarah and Paul and it was a fun match-up - both super talented, both having completely different styles. The only match-up I may have liked better would've been Ed and Paul. Sarah and Paul were each allowed four sous chefs, whom they chose after a blind tasting of dishes from a group made up of eliminated chefs, James Beard Award-winning chefs Barb and Marco and some of the original chefs that didn't make it into the competition.
Paul's meal was a progression of silky, sexy Asian goodness - just like Paul! Sarah's menu was full of inventive twists on her Italian and German backgrounds. I want that squid-ink tagliatelle with spot prawns and fresh coconut in my mouth. Same goes for Paul's chawanmushi with edamame, pea shoots and spot prawns. Tom and Padma went so far as to call this season's finale meal the best in Top Chef History™. I believe them.
During a teaser for "Watch What Happens Live," Andy Cohen was sitting in the studio with the two finalists and I SWEAR TO GOD the smug, smiley look on Sarah's face made me think she had won. Paul looked uncomfortable and slightly defeated and gave the beaming Sarah a pat on the knee. Back to judges table and Sarah's crying and Sarah's mom is crying and that other lady who was at dinner with Sarah's mom is crying and then Padma tells Paul he won! Hooray Paul!
@TheGorgeousJR: "[It is] very inexpensive; we sell it at the shop. You can get it…
Where can you buy caul fat?
This looks amazing. However, I see a bell pepper on the counter, and bell pepper…
Love pork belly.
Some food just doesn't photograph well, even if it is tasty.
Nothing wrong with grease on the walls if the burger is tasty.
