The 2012 James Beard Foundation Book Awards were announced over the weekend. Among the winners was Atlanta's very own Hugh Acheson (no surprise there). Acheson's cook book, A New Turn in the South: Southern Flavors Reinvented for Your Kitchen won the award for Best Cookbook/American Cooking. Congrats Mr. Acheson!
Everyone was surprised, however, when Acheson and fellow Atlanta chef Linton Hopkins won the Beard for Best Chef in the Southeast. Hmm, a tie is slightly anti-climatic, but our congratulations go out to both home team heavyweights. Besides, the AJC reports that Hopkins is happy to share this year's award. "This is a collaborative business," said Hopkins. "In a sense there should be more ties."
In case you missed it, here's a video of this year's award show.
