A creepy new trend in the bar scene has made its way from the West Coast into Georgia. In the past year, bar hoppers in San Fransico have been troubled by the use of new facial detection software at their favorite watering holes. The software, created by Austin-based company SceneTap, has the ability to locate faces in a crowd and determine the age and gender demographics of the bar. While this service claims to be most useful for the business owners as a new marketing tool, SceneTap obliterates the “personal-space” bubble.

The information is not only available for the owners, but it is also available through a free iPhone and Android app that SceneTap has created. The free app will pick up the nearest venues with the SceneTap software and will give you the male to female ratio, age demographic, and how many people are actually at the bar. You can filter your search based on if the location has more women, or men, if its chill or hoppin’, and even into the categories of age like 21-23 or 30+.
