The Obama administration today announced a new means of determining Americans' income status: consumption of country fried steak.
At the top is (a lousy) picture of the dish, made with two ribeye steaks, at the new Spence in Midtown. Is it disturbing to see Richard Blais riffing on a Paula-Deenish dish? Not if you're part of the 1 percent and have $27 to spare for flavorful parody.
The other picture is of the country fried steak offered this week as a special at Taqueria del Sol. Its cost: just under $8. Yes, it puts you in the 99 percent headed for life in a trailer park, but it tastes great.
Neither of these should be confused with the Black Angus chop steak I recently ordered at Roxx — a satisfying meal for $11.
