The winner for best coffeehouse is the Starbucks at Ansley Mall. While I hang out there nearly daily before visiting the gym next door, I gotta say the coffee isn't as appealing as the social atmosphere. And the free wifi has slowed to the speed of a moth emerging from its cocoon.
Incidentally, Starbucks' increasingly popular iPhone app seems to have had an unexpected effect on baristas: tips have dropped significantly. I'm not sure why the app has had any more negative effect than the cards the store issues. The chain needs to find a way to tip with the app and cards.
Georgia Voice readers picked La Tavola as the best overall restaurant with Roxx and Cakes and Ale taking second and third. The Fifth Ivory was dubbed he best new restaurant. STK and Campagnolo were runners-up. Kevin Gillespie of Woodfire Grill took the best local chef spot with Kevin Kusinski of K Squared Meals and Billy Allin of Cakes & Ale following behind.
I am, by the way, still writing (and experimenting) with a food column, "Food Porn" in Georgia Voice. It's a fictional series set in real-life Atlanta restaurants.
