Bantam & Biddy nears completion

Posted By on Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 5:40 PM

That's Lance Gummere, co-owner and chef of the soon-to-open Bantam & Biddy at Ansley Mall. He's on the phone, pacing during what he told me is "the worst week of my life." I reminded him that he'd told me the same thing a few weeks back and he admitted to a bit of overstatement.

Well, maybe. The restaurant construction is supposed to be done by the end of next week. Talk about cutting things close, Gummere has a Scoutmob dinner scheduled at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28. (If you want to attend the limited-seating, three-course dinner, you better log onto Scoutmob right away.)

I took a tour of the new restaurant, which has some pleasing aesthetic touches like a flash of bright green tile. It's set up much like Yeah Burger, which was created by Shaun Doty, also a co-owner of this new venture. (Doty sold his share of Yeah Burger recently.) Customers will order at the front of the restaurant from a menu mainly of rotisserie chicken dishes.

It will feature a full bar. While the liquor license has been approved, its actual issuance is dependent upon a related step in the notoriously complicated process.
