God hates genetically modified food

So, Mr. Hope & Change was re-elected. Maybe now he can actually fulfill some of the promises he made during his first election campaign.

One of those was to require labeling of genetically modified food. He's so inaccessible to discussion of the matter that the Organic Consumers Association delivered a petition with over 200,000 signatures to Michele Obama, hoping she would nag him into doing what he promised.

The consumer group's petition follows the defeat of Prop 37 in California, which would have required such labeling. It's unclear why Californians didn't adopt the law. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the food industry spent $34 million to defeat the measure while supporters only had $4 million.

Actually, though, lots of informed people opposed the proposed law, claiming that generations of Americans have eaten genetically modified food without harm. The opponents also argue that the labeling will likely increase costs significantly.
