Omnivore - Lunch specials begin at Bantam & Biddy

Try the chicken pot pie

Here’s some good news for all the cheap peeps who are complaining about the prices at the new Bantam & Biddy.

The restaurant is offering this chicken pot pie as a lunch special for only $6. I had it for dinner recently and loved it. That’s a big fat biscuit sitting in the middle of the bowl. My problem with the average chicken pot pie is excessively thick pastry crust. The biscuit in Chef Lance Gummere’s version crumbles but holds its own, sopping up some of the intense broth in the bowl.

It’s the chunks of rotisserie chicken mingled with cubes of potato that make the dish. It’s juicy and flavorful because it’s from pampered birds who went to their death with grace and dignity. Seriously, the restaurant pays over twice the cost of conventionally raised chicken. That pays off in taste but also requires higher prices. So the lunch special is a good way to sample the restaurant’s fare without spending much.
